April, 2018: A Transformation to Behold

Interior Designer, Cheryl Wilson, worked with Susan B., a long-time client of Plantation Interiors, to update her home on Hilton Head Island. Seeking a transformation to reflect her current lifestyle, the design objective was to revitalize the use and function of spaces, encourage casual and comfortable gatherings with friends, replace darker colors with softer hues, and deliver a clean, clutter-free space.

It was important to Susan that the changes reflect her individual taste rather than current design trends -- and to incorporate some of her existing pieces. To meet Susan's design objectives, Cheryl proposed a unified color palette allowing the flexible introduction of color through accents, pillows and window treatments. Cheryl also selected pieces to be repainted/reupholstered and paired them with comfortable, properly proportioned new furniture to create relaxing conversation areas.

Within the kitchen, the multi-level counter was replaced with a single granite slab and new undercounter stools delivering clean lines and acting as a casual gathering space. The wall color was lightened and the backsplash and countertops were updated to reflect Susan's taste.

Within the dining room, the chandelier was upgraded to reflect a casual elegance accompanied by her refurbished table, new chairs and area rug help to complete the transformation.

Within the living room, the built-in bookcases were repainted to brighten the space. Complementing these items, Cheryl recommended a selection of new furniture that Susan could touch, see and experience within Plantation Interior's showroom. Additional color and fabric choices were presented from the Plantation Interior's extensive resource library. Cheryl also incorporated a custom painting above the fireplace to serve as the room's focal point.

And to refresh sentimental pieces, a chair and sofa were reupholstered restoring them to new condition within the home's media area.

To recapture space, the decade-old children's play area was transformed into a sitting area -- allowing adults and teens to interact.

Three of the home's bathrooms were also updated with new tile, paint, fixtures, lighting and glass -- all reflecting a bright yet casual elegance. Importantly, the granddaughter selected her custom finishes working with Cheryl and Susan.

The bedrooms were also painted relaxing colors with complementing window treatments, carpeting and furniture.
